Luke 2:1-20 (ESV)

"In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,[b] who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” 15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. "

Celebrate today the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and anticipate His return one day!

Advent Week 4: Anticipate the Coming

 Sunday, December 23, 2012
Read the following Scripture: Micah 5:2-5a
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” 3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor bears a son, and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites. 4 He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. 5 And he will be our peace

Discussion Questions
1. Micah lived in an evil and selfish world. What things in our world are evil?
2. Share stories that you think are examples of evil and selfishness in your world.
3.Micah prophesied about God’s Messiah being one who was like King David, who had humble beginnings. How do you feel about God choosing to use the seemingly weak and humble to accomplish His purposes?
4. Do you have a personal story of how God used your weaknesses for His purposes?
5. What does it mean to you to know that God came to our world as a baby who was helpless and powerless?
6. What are some small acts of love and kindness that you can do this week to spread God’s love to others?

Advent - Week Three - Anticipate the Prophecy

 Sunday, December 16, 2012

Read the following Scripture: Zephaniah 3:14-20 (NLT)

Sing, O daughter of Zion;
    shout aloud, O Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
    O daughter of Jerusalem!
15 For the Lord will remove his hand of judgment
and will disperse the armies of your enemy.
And the Lord himself, the King of Israel,
    will live among you!
At last your troubles will be over,
and you will never again fear disaster.
16 On that day the announcement to Jerusalem will be,
“Cheer up, Zion! Don’t be afraid!
17 For the Lord your God is living among you.
    He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.[a]
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

18 “I will gather you who mourn for the appointed festivals;
you will be disgraced no more.[b]
19 And I will deal severely with all who have oppressed you.
    I will save the weak and helpless ones;
I will bring together
    those who were chased away.
I will give glory and fame to my former exiles,
wherever they have been mocked and shamed.
20 On that day I will gather you together
    and bring you home again.
I will give you a good name, a name of distinction,
among all the nations of the earth,
as I restore your fortunes before their very eyes.
    I, the Lord, have spoken!”

Discussion Questions:

• Can you remember things that God has done in your past that cause you to celebrate?

• What things do you hope God will do with you and through you in the future?

• Jesus’ return will be a time of celebration for those who are the faithful ones of God. How does that make you feel? What would be something that God could do that would cause you to celebrate? Do you think that will be part of Jesus’ return?

• What would it look like if we invited everyone to the celebration of Jesus’ return? What would we need to do in order to invite all people to celebrate the day when Jesus comes back?

Advent Week 2 - Anticipate the King

 Sunday, December 09, 2012
Read the following Scripture: Malachi 3:1-4

1 “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty.
2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, 4 and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years."

1. What does it look like to focus too much on Christmas During Advent? What activities do you do to prepare for Christmas? How can that change the way we experience advent?
2. How did the Jewish people handle exile? How do people today experience exile?
3. What does the process of purification look like in a person's life? What types of things does God want removed from a person’s life in order to purify them?
4. In preparing for Christ's Second coming, what are some things he wants you to remove from your life?

A Closing Prayer of Blessing
May the God of peace enable you to; Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can
For the glory of His Name, Go in His peace.

A message from Pastor Todd

 Friday, September 21, 2012

Dear HHICC Family,

Over the course of the past 18 months, God has allowed HHICC to raise enough money, outside the general fund, to secure and renovate our new facility at MM9 on Hwy 278.  It is clear that God is currently using and will continue to use this new facility to draw more and more Islanders to Him.  In just the first two months in our new facility, we have added nearly 100 people to our regular attendance and there have been nearly a dozen people who have made decisions for Christ.  To God be the glory!

As sometimes happens, our costs for the renovations grew beyond our anticipation.  We are still in the process of counting the final costs, but suffice it to say that from a cash flow standpoint, it has taken literally everything that we had.  We have stood firm on the "no debt" principle throughout this whole process.  So in an effort to complete the renovations, we emptied our reserve account and have had to make provisions on a week-to-week basis to manage cash flow.  This is not the type of stewardship that we are accustomed to nor the type of stewardship that we feel God has called us to as a church.  Our desire is NOT to be "cash rich" but we do want to plan for an unexpected facility repair, sudden economic downturn, or an unforeseen ministry need that God may lead us to.

Our next significant financial step is to replenish our reserves account to a point that is reflective of the good stewardship that God has called us to as a church.  If you are on our mailing list, you received a letter from me a few weeks, outlining this short term "Replenish the Reserves" campaign to raise a minimum of $ 25,000, or roughly two weeks of expenses, for our reserves account.

THIS Sunday, September 23, we are going to have a special one-time cash offering where you can give to help replenish the reserves.  If God is leading you to be a part of this, please note in the memo section of your contribution with the words "reserves"  and drop it in one of our two Giving Stations located at Guest Services on Sunday.  You can also designate a gift above and beyond your regular tithes and offerings through an online contribution by visiting the GIVING PAGE of our website.

God has been faithful in the past and we ABSOLUTELY believe Him for the future!  Please pray about what God is leading you to give toward this special offering.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday,

Pastor Todd

What you need to know about this Sunday at our New Location!

 Friday, July 13, 2012

We are so excited to worship together this Sunday in our new location!

Beginning this Sunday, July 15, we will have one service at 10:30a at our new location, 860 William Hilton Parkway at Mile Marker Nine located in the Hargray Complex next to Fresh Market.

Here are some VERY important things for you to know about our new location!

  • If you serve as a volunteer in Guest Services, Island Kidz, Worship Team, or Production, please use the parking lot located behind the building and enter through our volunteer entrance. This is VERY important as we need every space possible in front of our building. This door will be locked at 10:05 every week for security reasons so please be on time for your specific call times on Sundays.
  • When you come for services, as you enter the main entrance (at our 278 sign), our Parking Team and (as needed) Beaufort County Sheriff's Office will be directing you to a parking spot every Sunday. Please follow these men and women as they help to create a safe parking lot for everyone each week. Please observe all signs and cones that are marked in our lots.
  • If you have children ages 0-11, please enter the building using the Island Kidz/Office Entrance located to the right of the main entrance. This will allow for a quicker check-in process for you as a family.
  • As you exit after services, you have five different options.  There are two exits from our parking lot and three towards Fresh Market. Everyone will be directed to exit to the right on 278. No left turns will be permitted after the service to help with traffic flow.

Pastor Todd will continue in our Message Series "The Sweet Life" with Kindness and Goodness this week. Oh...and we have a very BIG announcement as well. You do not want to miss it!

See you Sunday at 10:30a!
